End to Nationwide ‘NEET’!
End to Nationwide ‘NEET’!
New Delhi, July 3: The Parliamentary Standing Committee has suggested that changes are needed in the conduct process of ‘NEET,’ which has become a center of controversy due to repeated leaks and exam cancellation decisions. It proposed that instead of conducting the NEET-UG exam nationwide on a single day as is currently done, it should be conducted in multiple phases across all states. It stated that this could largely avoid the transportation-related pressure and the complexity involved in the arrangements. In this regard, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports Affairs, which met under the leadership of Mukul Wasnik, made key proposals. NEET is the country’s largest National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, with lakhs of candidates appearing for it. Keeping in mind the difficulty of conducting the exam for so many candidates on a single day, the meeting also discussed how it would be if separate entrance exams were conducted for MBBS, AYUSH, and Nursing courses.
