Checking Sugar with Kitchen Ingredients!
Hyderabad, July 3: Scientists at the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) in Tarnaka, Hyderabad, are conducting experiments aimed at controlling diabetes using ingredients commonly found in our everyday spice boxes. A herbal extract they prepared using ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, gooseberry (amla), and turmeric has shown positive results in experiments conducted on rats. In people suffering from diabetes for a long time, health problems such as kidney diseases (nephropathy), nerve damage (neuropathy), diminished eyesight or sometimes complete vision loss (retinopathy), and cataracts are commonly observed. NIN scientist Dr. G. Bhanuprakash Reddy stated that these health problems, which pose a serious threat to diabetes patients, can be controlled with this herbal extract, and that it can also be useful in managing health issues arising from obesity. He revealed that research has been underway for 15 years to develop this extract.
